An epaulet is a type of shoulder decoration. Originally functional, it was used to protect a soldier from a heavy shoulder belt laden with ammunition and tools. By the 18th century, it had become a distinguishing feature of commissioned ranking officers for the French, the British and even the American Continental Army.
For Erin, it's another way to embellish a costume while paying tribute to 18th century fashion trends.

Epaulette is French for little shoulder, thus it is the diminutive of "épaule," which translates directly to shoulder.
“Epaulets are a great way to give a costume volume or add depth to a theme. I like to envision the silhouette of my designs. Epaulets accentuate the shoulders and create a more glamorous silhouette.” -Erin
